My Steinway Blues
This is the book you have been waiting for.
It is my true story as a professional musician whose colourful, if chequered career has enabled me to review the past with a relaxed, philosophical eye.
I attended my local grammar school, and on an organ scholarship went up to Oxford where I shared tutorials with fellow Londoner, the late Dudley Moore - who rose to international fame and fortune while I drifted from gig to gig, clutching at straws and failing to capitalize on my achievements.
I have written this account of my life with candour and I hope a good helping of wit, tracing my years from choirboy days, school and university, through work and close encounters with the famous and ‘infamous’, to life in a Spanish village and the dubious pleasures of altercations with the wicked over my much cherished Steinway grand piano.
